Hello Everyone,
I hope you've all enjoyed some time in the water or at the tying vise lately. Things have settled into my normal winter fishing routine over the last month. The fish have been predictably lethargic to begin with most days but have perked up when the water warms a bit, or a midge hatch materializes. I suppose I can empathize with the trout's typical slow start to a winter day of living. I find myself a bit slower to get out of the car to the river when I look at the car thermometer especially when I look out the window at a stiff breeze. Thankfully, when I do pile on the layers and get out the door, there are typically some trout willing to greet me.
Whether you have been out fishing lately or not, if you need a little more motivation, we just released another YouTube video. This video was the third in the series of 1 vs 2 fly videos we have done recently. You can see the first two videos at this link and this link. In it I take you to a nice run on a valley stretch of river. The goal was to show the utility of starting with 2 flies in the deepest depression in the run and then switching to 1 fly in some locations with more complex currents on the margins. Did I accomplish my goal for the video? I guess you'll have to find out by clicking the play button on the video thumbnail below.
